I am both excited & worried to see where the next generation takes libraries. Excited to learn the new technology librarians will have to learn & implement, but worried I will not be able to keep up. It's been four years since I have worked summer school & the changes are amazing. Gone are the days of the overhead projector--teachers want video projectors & projection cameras. Classes are not coming to use print material, but rather computers. The students primary research source is the web. I agree with the article, "Away from the iceberg," by Rick Anderson when he says, "we need to bring our library services & content to the user's preferred environment the web. So more than ever we need to learn & in-service our teachers on how to use the web efficiently by creating web blogs & content mash ups to build a useful web. With budgets being cut we too are cutting down on reference books because of their cost & focusing on fiction & high interest books like "library chica".

LibraryThing--I really enjoyed-- and for the first time in my career I wrote reviews for the books I have read this summer.

Is it just me or are Del.icio.us and Rollyo too similar? Thing 12 & Thing 13 reinforced the benefits of Tagging (organization, categorizing, and grouping) which can be useful for any individual, educator, library, or organization. It certainly can help group all library research databases and other information that can exist in a web page helping to reduce the size and look of the page.

ROLLYO is still difficult. The search scroll is not hard to place on the blog. What I wanted was to give direct access to my school's library web page Pace High School, TAYSHAS Book List, Lonestar Book List, YALSA Book List, and the ESC 1: 23 Things--but I don't think I got there. I do have YA Literature and when you click on it and type my categories than you are taken to the sites. How are others suppose to know to type TAYSHAS or YALSA, etc. and why do I see other links I am not interested in? What am I doing wrong and what are some easy instructions to follow?

I love the Comic Strip Generator! It is fun and easy to use. It can be used to promote new books in the library, library events, to add in newsletters, flyers, pamphlets, and for posting great graphics on the library web page.

"Wow!" it is easy to get lost reading all of the news and fun stuff that is on the internet. Setting up my Google Reader and following Librarychica's advice of linking it to the my iGoogle page makes it easier to stay focused. The RSS feed line that different sites have makes it easy to add to Google Reader.

It amazes me how computer illiterate I am. As I continue to explore 2.0: 23 Things--I am astound at how much different search engines can offer. RSS, iGoogle, Google Reader was all new terminology/information. Now that I set up my Google Reader I am going to continue learning what is out there and how different people feel about the information they read.

Mashups and more what an experience. I loved the trading card, warholizer, and of course the CD cover. I am hoping to use the CD cover and CD labels this year for the Library Book Club. Throughout the school year we take pictures of the various activities and I think it would be a special gift to give each member a CD as a momento. Students in high school don't really purchase a year book until their senior year because of its price.

I feel I just came from under a rock but, the one thing that has just attracted my attention with technology comes from a cell phone. I just discovered the "Teen Buzz" cell phone ring tone. A ring tone designed to repel teenagers from hanging around stores is now helping them. As we get older we develop the aging ear and as such we can not hear the high pitch sound teenagers are now using to receive text messages. In some areas this has been a problem because students are using the ring tone to receive messages in class and many teachers can't hear them specially if they are older than thirty. Teenagers are downloading the ring tone from--the Internet--of course.

Flickr was interesting, but I'm still not comfortable with having to register with all kinds of services on the Internet. I understand it is free, but it can be overwhelming to have to remember all kinds of usernames, passwords, addresses, etc.
I was attracted to this picture of one airport in St. Lucia, because my sister and her husband will be going this month for a second time. The first time they went the plane practically left them in front of the beach house they were staying in.
